Chief’s first post!
For those of you who don’t know me I'm Stoakley Lloyd SpoCon’s Chief Executive Officer. As part of our new website I felt I should generate some content so you would all have a reason to come here other than to drool over all our amazing content and get anxious for August to arrive. So I decided I would try to create a blog. I'm not sure how often I will post or what it will be about but it will be my thoughts and ideas on all things fanish. It might get a little political but since we are family remember that these are my thoughts and that no matter what I say here you are all my Fan Family and always welcome.
What is the Fan Family
Why do I call you all my Fan Family? To be honest it started out because I needed a collective noun and I liked the alliteration. But the more I think about it the more I like the way it feels. A few times a year we all get together for a reunion we gather with people we haven’t seen in months to chat, play, learn and teach. In between we stay in touch over social media from our homes across the Inland Northwest. We support each other in all kinds of ways we buy and critique art work and writing we cheer on successes and commiserate failures. Just recently a bunch of great family members raised money on GoFundMe.com to help pay for surgery to save the life of a therapy cat. Sometimes we even fight like family but just like family everyone is welcome. That is the best part of fandom all you have to do to be welcome is to be welcoming. A lot of us come to fandom because we do not fit in other places. If you are a Furry, a Trekky, a Potterhead you can get some strange looks when you let your geek flag fly but at the Con you are always welcome. So I will see you all at SpoCon, MisCon, RadCon, GFGR, Lilac City ComicCon, Tolkien Moot, KuroNekoCon, StarKane, or Fan Nexus. Bring your book, your game, your song or your character. Come as you are or come as you aren’t you are all a part of my Fan Family and I can’t wait to see you!
