Filk Corner
Fen are people, thus Fen like music. Filk, loosely defined, is music enjoyed, written or performed by Fen. Aha! But what are Fen? Fen, Loosely defined, are people (or aliens, should they decide they want to be defined with us) who like sci-fi, fantasy and conventions, and things related to sci-fi, fantasy, and conventions. A short list of examples of related things would be: science, space, comic books, anime, books, middle ages weapons, role playing games, and larping.
Some of us like music when we game, some like music when we read, some just like music, but being human, we all have music in our lives in some way or another. At SpoCon we try to have fun with that most human of cultural languages, music! Whether it is a contest for memorabilia from our authors by writing songs related to their books, or an inspiring performance by a local celtic band we invite everyone to come and play! Or sing! Or listen!
Our music guests over the last two years have been a great introduction to music that is written and performed by our fellow sci-fi/fantasy enthusiasts. We hope you have enjoyed them.
We are adding another great performer to that list this year with Seanan McGuire, the fabulous, author/cartoonist/singer/songwriter/cthulu accolyte from California. She is going to really knock your socks off!
If you enjoy the music you should also consider coming to one of our filk gatherings. We have had two so far in a colaboration between Spokane filkers and those coming in from the Tri Cities area. If you are interested you should contact Randy or Char at Spoconpros@sisna.com.
