Hello Everyone,

I'm excited to be coordinating the boardgames at this year's SpoCon and I'd like to get started right away. "Boardgames" is a big tent category:

  • Traditional boardgames (Monopoly, Risk)
  • Modern boardgames (Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride)
  • Traditional war games (ASL, Hammer of the Scots)
  • Card games (Munchkin, Fluxx)

It doesn't cover CCGs or miniature war games.

I've started this thread to solicit ideas for what you want to see in boardgames this year. This may sound kind silly, but that's how I roll, so here's my goals for boardgames at SpoCon:

  1. Provide a place for boardgame enthusiasts to meet other enthusiasts and play some games.
  2. Make games available to casual boardgamers.
  3. Introduce people who are not familiar with "modern" boardgames to what's currently out there.

Post and let me know what you want to see at SpoCon 2010!

Some ideas I have and the goals they help achieve:

  • Boardgame Library (1, 2, and 3)
  • Provide bins to store your boardgames (1)
  • Prize table! (1 and 3)
  • "Players Needed" cones (1, 2, and 3)
  • Designated game teachers (2 and 3)
  • Scheduled events (1 and 2)

I was talking to somebody about running a Classic Heroquest game.

Don't know if there's interest.

That scary cloaked guy on the screen still gives me chills.

There's definitely going to be scheduled events for boardgames (editing my first post to show that now). If you want to run an event we'll make sure you have the time and space to do it. I don't think anyone is ready to start accepting events yet, but I'm 99% sure that there will be interest in a classic Heroquest game.

Cool, I'll keep an eye out here, I'm a bit far away to actually help with anything there, (In Butte, MT) But I'm here if you need anything from me.

Last year, Uncle's was a great supporter of gaming and helping run demos of new stuff. Palouse board gamers was also instrumental. I will do some contacting and see what can be put together. The key will be to find the space Smiling

I've already contacted the Palouse Board Gamers. My plan is to catch Chris and hold him hostage until he gives me 20 tables for my budding boardgaming empire.
