What exactly is "ghost of honor"?

Hi,
I'm curious what exactly is "ghost of honor?" Will Arthur C Clarke be represented by a family member or colleague? I'm very curious, and I'd also like to vote for Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E Howard as future ghosts of honor.

Also, on the living side of things did you know that CJ Cherryh is a Spokane resident? She might be a great guest of honor for next year.

Hi Jesse, the Ghost of Honor is someone who is no longer with us, but who we'd still like to honor for their amazing contributions to Fandom, we thought Sir Arthur C. Clarke was a great choice, since it's 2010 and all Laughing out loud

I'm not sure if our Guest Liasons have any future Ghosts of Honor planned, but if they do, I'm sure they'd love to hear your suggestions.
